Meet Nate Ostdiek

Born and raised in Omaha, Nate Ostdiek attended Westside High School and chose to build his future here, where he attended the University of Nebraska-Omaha and earned his bachelor's degree in political science. He is currently deepening his expertise as a graduate student in the History and Government master's Program, while working as a Graduate Assistant in UNO's Political Science Department.

Nate built his academic career conducting research into pressing national security issues, including nuclear deterrence, environmental security, and wargame design. He has worked on projects for the Department of War, the National Strategic Research Institute, and NATO. These experiences connect deeply with Nebraska and underscore our state’s importance to our national security. While working on these big-picture problems, Nate has been committed to helping here at home. He has managed several community gardens around Omaha, ensuring his peers could get fresh produce on the table as grocery prices skyrocketed, and is civically engaged on a broad range of issues.

Nate moves beyond studying policy to put it into practice. He has experience in legislative advocacy on issues that move our state forward: increasing access to transportation, funding our education system, and keeping young people in Nebraska. Nate has a proven track record of fostering community partnerships that deliver real results. Notably, Nate negotiated and implemented a partnership between Heartland Bike Share and UNO to provide affordable access to transportation without raising student fees. Balancing budget priorities with affordability to cut costs and expand services while opposing divisive, politically motivated attacks on jobs and programs. He understands how important access is and just how debilitating the cost of bureaucracy can be.

For the past several years, corporate and billionaire interests have infiltrated our Nebraska Legislature while the needs of ordinary Nebraskans are left behind. Nate knows that when the wealthiest corporations pay their fair share, we can fix our deficit and have an economy that works for us. Where ordinary Nebraskans can see actual property tax relief, have good jobs and wages, and feel confident in raising a family. But the work in these areas is far from done, and that is why Nate decided to deepen his commitment to this fight by running for the legislature. Nate recognizes that unless our elected officials are put under pressure, the government will continue to drag its feet and not serve the people. We need a State Senator who can bring an agenda to move our state forward and grow, while bringing more working Nebraskans to the table.

Nate is ready to serve his neighbors in District 6 and any Nebraskan who feels left behind by politics. He believes that all people deserve a life of dignity and that, together, we have what it takes to make it happen.
